Do you love to move to fast-paced music? What about making up your own moves as you go along? If so, jazz dance might be just the thing for you. Jazz dance first appeared on the dance scene in the early 1900s in New Orleans. It was performed to the emerging jazz music, but it has origins that stretch way further back than that. Jazz is a form of dance that gained popularity through the 1950s. Using lots of leaps and turns, jazz dance incorporates many of the same elements as ballet. 

WHAT TO EXPECT
Get your water bottle ready! Jazz dance is a motivating, fun, upbeat class with a lot of movement. Jazz involves a broad range of styles ranging from the 1950s to modern Jazz today. If you’re a really dynamic, super energetic person, Jazz is the place for you! This class is suitable if you are new to Jazz dance or if you want to develop your existing skills and confidence. . This class will allow you to improve your technique and performance quality, and develop more complex rhythms and patterns. Develop your skills as a well rounded dancer by practising a variety of Jazz styles, such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary. The class is based on Ballet technique layered with traditional Jazz movement, and includes warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Over the term the technique and patterns will become more  complex and intricate to keep your mind working!


WHAT TO WEAR
When dressing for a jazz dance class, think about wearing clothing that allows you to move. LUKI Jazz classes are casual and relaxed!  A dancer's body lines need to be visible, however, so baggy clothes are generally discouraged. Tights and leotards are fine, but most of our dancers prefer to wear leggings and a figure fitting tank top.
